Founded in 2006 by retired Virginia law enforcement officers, Academy of Driving, LLC is a professional driver training school based near downtown Lynchburg, Virginia; serving the City of Lynchburg, Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, and Campbell County. In 2017, Ken Frederick became the sole owner of Academy of Driving and continues to operate the most comprehensive driving school in Central Virginia.
Each year, Academy of Driving is privileged to provide several hundred students with high-quality driver training, driving instruction, driver improvement clinics, and Virginia driving manual classes. We are proud to provide these quality programs and we constantly strive to adhere to the laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial driving school.
Academy of Driving, LLC is licensed by and audited annually by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles as required by law. Under Virginia law, properly licensed professional driving schools are certified and licensed to provide specific classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training for students who are unable or unwilling to receive this education through their public or private high schools.

Over the years, Ken Frederick has been a staple in the development of the youth in the Lynchburg area. Through his twenty-one years as an officer with the Lynchburg Police Department Ken has developed a rapport with thousands of young folks through his work as a patrol officer, community relations officer, DARE officer, BSA Explorer program and his work in the Lynchburg Public and Private Schools.
In addition, Ken has been a member of a number of professional associations organized to promote highway safety and establish solid standards for driver education. Ken served on the Board of Directors for VADETS (Virginia Association for Driver Education and Traffic Safety); and has also served on the Board of Directors of YOVASO (Youth Of Virginia Speaking Out); a peer to peer program to allow teens to have a voice in the promotion of safe driving among their peers. Ken also presents his skills and talents at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) as the lead instructor for Teen Driving Solutions School; a 501(C)(3) corporation which is an on course advanced driver education program for teens and parents.
Finally, Ken is also a member of Peakland United Methodist Church. He has served as a PTO president, President and coach of Lynchburg Little League, Co-founder and President of the Lynchburg Law Enforcement Officers Association, President of the Lynchburg Optimist Club, member of the Seven Hills Lions Club and Lynchburg Kiwanis Club.
